The warnings come amidst the third day of clashes between security forces and Palestinian rioters at the holy site, leading to a wave of violence throughout the city.
The EU warned Tuesday against any “provocation” at Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa mosque compound as Palestinians and Israeli security forces clashed for a third day.
“The reported violence and escalation (at the site) constitute a provocation and incitement ahead of important Jewish and Muslim holy days,” European Commission spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic told reporters in Brussels.
“It is crucial that all parties demonstrate calm and restraint and full respect for the status quo of the holy sites,” Kocijancic said. The 28-nation EU had recently “issued an appeal for full respect of the holy sites and said very clearly that any change of the status quo would have deeply destablizing effects,” she added.
The site is the third-holiest in Islam but also venerated by Jews as the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism. Protesters fear Israel is seeking to change rules governing the site which allow Jews to visit but not pray, despite Israeli denials.
Jordan's Minister for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani demanded the Israeli government stop its "provocative acts" and raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the temple mount compound, and to cease its attacks on holy sites.
Momani, who is also the Jordanian government's spokesperson, stressed that Jordan will "continue efforts confronting all Israeli attempts and measures against Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem, and said the Kingdom will carry on with its mission to safeguard holy shrines in Jerusalem."
He continued to say that Jordan was examining all legal and diplomatic options were being reviewed in order to protect the holy sites from the "Israeli attacks."
The UN and US have urged restraint on both sides amid the latest clashes.

Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, declared mobilization next Friday in support of the Aqsa Mosque. It aims at confronting the Israeli practices of spatial and temporal division of the Muslims’ holy site as well as at defending Palestinian sit-inners and al-Aqsa guards.
In a statement, Hamas called on the entire Palestinian people to participate in defending the Aqsa Mosque and Occupied Jerusalem against Israeli attacks and plans of spatial and temporal division of the holy Aqsa Mosque.
Occupied Jerusalem has been witnessing, over the past few days, serious escalation in Israeli violations and incursions into the Aqsa Mosque within attempts to divide it temporally between Muslims and Jews.
Since then, violent clashes have been prevailing in the plazas of the Aqsa Mosque after Palestinian sit-inners and worshipers confronted Israeli repeated incursions.

Israeli ongoing escalation in al-Aqsa Mosque is a “declaration of war,” a senior official from Hamas Movement said Tuesday, as Israeli occupation forces violently broke into Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque for the third day in a row and aggressively assaulted the peaceful Muslim sit-inners and worshipers.
“The Israeli escalation on al-Aqsa Mosque is a declaration of war,” said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri, calling on the international community to rein in Israel “before the situation explodes.”
"The Palestinian people will never let this criminal Israeli scheme pass," Abu Zuhri said, referring to Israeli scheme to impose a spatio-temporal division on Muslims' holy al-Aqsa Mosque.
Hamas’s statement came as tension flared up for the third day in a row in the holy site after Israel’s minister of agriculture Uri Ariel and 50 Israeli fanatics stormed the Mosque under heavy police escort.
During the raid, the Qibli Mosque sustained serious damage after Israeli soldiers wreaked havoc on it, burned down its carpets, and ruined its historical windows, while dozens of worshipers and sit-inners were detained over the three past days including women and minors.
A number of worshipers were also injured when the police fired tear gas canisters, percussion bombs and rubber bullets during the Israeli police forces attempts to get the worshipers out of the mosque area in order to allow settlers to enter for prayers to mark their Jewish New Year holiday.
In this regard, the leadership body for Hamas prisoners in Israeli jails strongly condemned the Israeli ongoing and systematic attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque.
Such crimes against our holy sites need an urgent and tangible response, the statement said Tuesday.

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) have earlier declared intention to close the mosque on the Jewish New Year.
The Ibrahimi mosque is regularly closed down by Israeli forces under the same pretext, but Israeli settlers are given full privilege to break into it under heavy military protection.
More than 20 years ago, the IOA divided the Ibrahimi Mosque after the well-known massacre against Palestinian worshipers inside the mosque in 1994. Since then, the IOF soldiers as well as settlers have been storming the holy site without deterrence.
Meanwhile, Israeli settlers were allowed to enter into the holy shrine and to perform their Talmudic rituals in total provocation to Muslim worshipers who remained out.

The Israeli occupation soldiers on early Tuesday morning broke into Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque for the third day in a row and smashed the entrance gates of the Qibli Mosque before they aggressively assaulted the peaceful Muslim sit-inners and worshipers.
A PIC news correspondent quoted a member of the Islamic Endowment personnel at al-Aqsa as reporting that the heavily-armed occupation soldiers smashed the gates of the Qibli Mosque in an attempt to nab the non-violent sit-inners who have been maintaining vigil in protest at Israeli vandalism at the Mosque.
“The Qibli Mosque sustained serious damage after Israelis wreaked havoc on it, burned down its carpets, and ruined its historical windows,” the official stated.
Meanwhile, a peaceful sit-inner at al-Aqsa said at least 20 Muslim worshipers sustained wounds after the Israeli occupation troops attacked them with heavy spates of tear gas canisters and rubber bullets.
The Israeli occupation soldiers have also come down heavily on the Muslim congregation and supervision personnel at al-Aqsa, denying them the right to enter the holy place of worship while boosting break-ins by fanatic Israelis and vandals.
The Israeli occupation forces and settlers stepped up break-ins and vandalism at the holy al-Aqsa Mosque, Muslims’ third holiest site, as part of ongoing intents to enforce a spatio-temporal division on the Mosque.
Temple Mount clashes continue for third day
Third day of rioting sees Palestinians barricading themselves inside al-Aqsa Mosque, throwing stones, concrete blocks, fireworks at security forces.
Clashes between security forces and Palestinians at the Temple Mount continued for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, the second day of Rosh Hashanah.
Jerusalem Police said: "Following intelligence collected by the Shin Bet and the police regarding Arab youths, some with their faces covered, who barricaded themselves inside al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, Jerusalem Police organized additional security forces at the entrance to the Temple Mount, who are prepared for any eventuality as has been done throughout the entire holiday.
According to police, the youths inside the mosque collected stones and fireworks and set up barricades to prevent closing the entrance, using shoe racks, iron rods, and rope tied to the doors of the mosque, and other methods.
As soon as the Temple Mount was opened to visitors on Tuesday morning, police said, rioters began throwing stones towards the Mughrabi Bridge.
Police and border guards then entered the Temple Mount area, at which point the rioters fled inside the mosque and began throwing dozens of stones, concrete blocks, and fireworks at security forces.
A firebomb was also thrown at security forces, setting wooden beams on fire.
Security forces began dismantling the barricades at the entrance to the mosque and shut the door with the rioters still inside.
Visits by Jews and tourists began on time and without disturbances.
Later in the day, police arrested an Arab man suspected of attacking two Jewish youths in the morning in the Old City. He fled the scene, but was detained after police said they recognized him on security footage.
Khaled Mashal, head of Hamas's political bureau, had a phone conversation with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas regarding events at the Temple Mount.
Violence erupted beyond the Temple Mount. In the early afternoon, around 170 Palestinians were rioting and throwing stones and firebombs at the border fence next to Tul Karm, more than 100 kilometers from Jerusalem.
At least nine people were arrested at the Temple Mount on Monday morning during rioting.
The United States said on Monday that it was deeply concerned about the violence and urged both sides to lower tensions.

Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) and senior Hamas leader Hassan Youssef called on the Palestinian masses to intensify presence at Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque, in Occupied Jerusalem, so as to defend it against Israeli sacrilegious schemes.
Speaking in an exclusive statement to the PIC, MP Hassan Youssef spoke out against Israel’s ongoing assaults on Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque and its attempts to divide it both spatially and temporally.
“This is the reason why they [Israelis] have been seeking ways to make such dreams come true,” he said, citing the security coordination between the occupation and the Palestinian Authority (PA) as one of those adopted ways.
“The Israeli occupation has taken advantage of security coordination to perpetrate its schemes and agendas against the al-Aqsa Mosque,” Youssef added.
“This is why resistance should be activated, Muslims’ presence intensified, PA’s security coordination ceased, and internal unity boosted,” he stated.
Youssef slammed the silence maintained by the international community as regards Israeli assaults on al-Aqsa, urging international organizations to immediately step in and take a tougher line against Israeli violations of Muslims’ freedom of worship and vandalism in holy places of worship.
The MP also called on all national resistance factions to combine forces and appeal to international courts to sue the Israeli occupation for crimes against peaceful worshipers and Islamic places of worship.
Tension has been running high at Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam—after the Israeli occupation forces and fanatic settlers stepped up desecration break-ins and cracked down on the unarmed Muslim congregation and sit-inners.
