Husam Abul-Rab, undersecretary of the awqaf and religious affairs ministry, has warned that Israel’s closure of Palestinian institutions in Occupied Jerusalem is part of its efforts to liquidate the Palestinian presence in the holy city.
In press remarks on Wednesday Abul-Rab has accused the Israeli political echelon of blessing such practices, which entails international action to address this serious situation.
He said that the closure of institutions and the repeated break-ins at the Aqsa Mosque by Jewish settlers were all aimed at imposing new faits accomplis in Jerusalem.
The official stressed the need for a clear Arab and Islamic position against these illegal Israeli practices in order to protect the Arab and Muslim nations’ religious, historical and cultural right to the holy city.

Israeli occupation authorities, on Wednesday, closed several official and non-official Palestinian institutions in the occupied city of Jerusalem for six months.

Occupation authorities have drawn up a decision signed by the Israeli Minister of Internal Security Gilad Ardan, to close the mentioned institutions for six months.
In addition, Israeli soldiers abducted the Director of Education in Jerusalem, Samir Jibril, and closed down the office based in the Orphans School, in in the Old City district, confiscated its keys, and detained the staff of the school for several hours inside the mosque.
The Ministry of Education said in a statement, on Wednesday, that this attack, which coincides with International Children’s Day, constitutes flagrant violation of all international conventions, customs, rights, charters, and laws, especially the right to education, international humanitarian law, and comes as a clear targeting of the sanctity of educational institutions and an attempt of the occupation to control the educational system in Jerusalem.
The ministry pointed out that this directorate office serves about 100,000 students and follow-up affairs, and that the closure will leave dozens of schools and thousands of students without follow-up.

Emirates Post issued a commemorative stamp in support of Palestine featuring the Dome of the Rock, and stresses that Jerusalem al-Quds is the capital of Palestine.
The stamp features the Dome of the Rock, located at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, the third holiest site in Islam, along with the flag of Palestine. A white dove symbolizing peace also appears.
According to Emirates Post, the “Al Quds – capital of Palestine” stamp aims to uphold the cultural importance the city holds in the eyes of Arabs.
“Such initiatives are proof that all Arab countries continue to stand by Palestine and support Al Quds’ cause, as well as a confirmation of the existing national ties and the special status Al Quds holds as an Arabic city and an important religious landmark,” said Obaid al-Qatami, acting chief commercial officer of Emirates Post Group.
He said, according to WAFA, that “it embodies the pivotal role of Emirates Post in issuing a diverse and enriched portfolio of stamps and in collaborating with other postal authorities in the region to highlight shared milestones and important causes”.
The move stems from a decision in 2018 when the Arab Permanent Postal Committee – the Arab League’s postal arm – agreed to issue a stamp in support of Palestine.

A group of fanatic Israeli colonialist settlers stormed, on Monday at night, the al-Maskobiyya Church, known as Abraham’s Oak Holy Trinity Monastery, in Hebron city, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.
Eyewitnesses said dozens of illegal colonists, accompanied by a large military force, invaded the Christian Monastery while chanting and singing, before holding prayers in the church.
The Monastery, located in the al-Jilda Street in Hebron city, in an area that falls under the complete control of the Palestinian Authority.
All of Israel’s colonies in occupied Palestine, including those in and around occupied Jerusalem, are illegal under International Law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, and constitute war crimes.
Also, Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” It also prohibits the “individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory”.

Palestinians express dismay as Israel advances a highly-controversial plan to link the western part of the occupied city of Jerusalem to its eastern part, which they want as the capital of their future state.
Slated for inauguration in 2021, the transportation system is planned to shuttle some 3,000 people per hour from a former railway station in western Jerusalem to the eastern Old City .
“The Israeli cable car project is an obscene violation of the cultural, historical, spiritual, geographic & demographic character of Jerusalem,” Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), tweeted on Thursday.
Besides peeking right into the part of the city, which is endeared by the Palestinians due to its housing the al-Aqsa Mosques compound — Islam’s holiest site –, the cable car would be passing by major Palestinian parts in the city, thus ignoring a good part of its demography. The $63-milloin plan, however, moved forward this week when a special committee headed by Israel’s finance minister gave it the green light.
“The foundations of the project will be built on our land,” said Khaled al-Zeer, a Palestinian from Silwan, neighborhood in East Jerusalem, AFP reported. “(It) will give the impression that it is a Jewish city and remove the Palestinian heritage from it,” he added.
Yotanan Mizrachi, an Israeli archaeologist opposing the plan, called it a “political project” that will cause “irreversible damage to the historic city.” “(It is) going to influence the way we see and understand the archaeology and the antiquity” of the city, he noted.
In 2015, France-based utility giant Suez Environnement said that because of political sensitivities, it had decided not to take part in the project.
“To avoid any political interpretation, Suez Environnement has decided not to take part in this project,” it said.
Israel captured the Palestinian territory of the West Bank in a war in 1967, and then annexed East Jerusalem. Ever since, Tel Aviv has continued to expand its illegal settlements and other projects in the area.
Tel Aviv’s attempts at manipulating the cultural and demographic configuration of the Palestinian territories comes while the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) approved a resolution in May 2015 that described the regime as an “occupying power” and rejected its sovereignty claims over all of Jerusalem.
