Continued Israeli Violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories This Week
1) Intensive shelling of Nablus, killing two Palestinian civilians;
2) An incursion into Jenin and a Palestinian civilian killed;
3) A continued strict siege and thousands of Christians barred from attending Christmas celebrations;
4) Dozens of Palestinians arrested;
5) Continued shelling of Palestinian residential areas and dozens of civilians injured; and
6) A Palestinian civilian dies from a pervious injury.
The period of Christmas celebrations. According to PCHR’s documentation, this week, 4 Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces as a result of excessive use of force against demonstrators, shelling of Palestinian residential areas, and willful killing.
These crimes are perpetrated under international silence and double standards in dealing with the Palestinian question, which was clearly demonstrated by the US veto in the UN Security Council against a resolution calling for international protection for the Palestinian people. These crimes are also perpetrated despite near-complete quiet throughout the OPT.
Israeli violations even affected Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, who was prevented from traveling from Ramallah to Bethlehem to attend the Christmas celebrations. Thousands of Palestinian Christians were also denied access to Jerusalem and Bethlehem to attend these celebrations.
Israeli occupation forces continue to shell and invade Palestinian residential areas.
On 20 December, Israeli occupation forces intensively shelled Nablus, killing two Palestinian civilians who were inside their houses.
On 26 December, Israeli occupation forces, supported by Apache combat helicopters, invaded Palestinian-controlled areas in Jenin. A Palestinian civilian was killed and several others were injured.
Despite near-complete quiet in the OPT this week, Israeli occupation forces raided Palestinian residential areas an arrested dozens of Palestinians, especially in Tammoun and ‘Azzoun villages in the West Bank.
